A direct result of starving the sector of adequate Government funding?
Has anyone yet done the study comparing academic’s health (mental health disorders, high blood pressure, musculoskeletal disorders, chronic fatigue, weakened immune systems) with the general full-time working population?
This is certainly something I have been interested in (and suffering from!) over a long period of time. See: https://tasasociologyofeducation.wordpress.com/2014/11/07/reflections-on-dark-thoughts-why-mental-illness-is-on-the-rise-in-academia/ which links to a guardian article on the same topic.
Meagan, we are academics, we should initiate such a study with our own funding!
What funding? Do you have any? Or was it just a joke?
We are being exploited but we let it happen so it’s our fault. We should only do what is strictly required, go home on time and what doesn’t get done doesn’t get done. Probably the universities that have exploited these work ethics would come to a grinding halt. That would be fun to watch.
